Settings Lost on PSP if Not Used for Several Months

I have been quite busy and have not had the PSP out for several months. I bought the Final Fantasy Tactics game last week and just this evening got out the PSP to see what the game is like. I’m not sure if I like it yet … I don’t dislike it … it is still way too early to tell since I only barely began the game.

BUT … when I tried to turn the game on, it had no charge (I expected that) … but what I didn’t know or expect was that it would make me reset the date and time on it. I guess I was expecting it to keep that info even if the battery was completely uncharged.

I plugged it in and charged it while playing the game and everything still works just fine and it charged fine – it is now sitting there with a full charge waiting for me to play again .. perhaps tomorrow .. perhaps not … depends on how tired I am tomorrow nite and how much I need to get done of other things. Now, it is time to walk the dog and get some rest so gaming is over for today.

March 9, 2008 Update

I love the Final Fantasy games and this one has an interesting storyline but the menu and grid battle system is not one of my favorite … I would prefer not to be involved in the mechanics of getting from one place to another – that gets really tedious really quickly. Another problem I am finding is that I have trouble telling exactly where they can move to because no matter which way I turn the camera .. the angle can be wrong so it then becomes a guessing game. And perhaps it is just me but even when I can see the square, it is difficult to tell if you are next to the monster or not. I think it is a matter of the viewing angle being off in the game … it is not a major deal-breaker but it is quite annoying.

My Playstation Game Didn’t Have Commercials Today on Super Bowl Sunday

This afternoon I played Final Fantasy XII on the Playstation 3 while I waited for my daughter to call me so I could go over to see her new puppy. While I was there, she turned on the game … I think I saw a few of the commercials … I was not impressed … one had a guy talking about being a drug pusher and telling people to keep their kids safe from the prescription drugs in their medicine cabinet. I thought that was a horrible way to get people’s attention about the issue. Another one was for water … a lovely girl was dancing and so were a bunch of … lizards? … I thought it might be a Geiko car insurance commercial at first.

When I got home, I went back to playing the game – it is nice to just sit and play awhile … my hands and arms are still tired from winding the string on my new kite yesterday and it sitting there with a PS3 controller in my hands where I am not having to do real time battling … for the first time, I am glad that FF does not … most of the time, that is one of the big things I want them to implement … I am looking forward to the battle menu system going away though this one we can set to more or less auto and not have to worry about it … sometimes … but I am hoping it will not be full of nearly impossible for me skills movements.

I hope that game makers do not start putting in commercials in the console games – I was thinking about that on my way home from my daughter’s house … we are bombarded everywhere with commercials … yes, even here … :) ….. a young man at Starbucks yesterday told me that “everyone” [I am NOT part of everyone] watches the Super Bowl even if they do not like football just so they can see the commercials. I was busy leveling my party up about 3 to 5 levels or so … I enjoyed that a lot more than I would a bunch of commercials.
