I love computer games! My kids & I started with an Atari 2600 all those years ago, moved into a Commodore 128 and the first Nintendo and a Playstation 1. And I played Dungeons & Dragons with my friends in Iowa for hours and hours … painting miniatures … that was a very long time ago … lives change … people move … kids grow up and have lives of their own, more people move including me … I left Iowa and moved to Texas. I still have not met anyone in person from the older generation down here in Texas that plays the pencil and paper Dungeons & Dragons so I could play it again …. I went to video games exclusively due to being an only player with no one to play with … game consoles and the PC are a great alternative for those of us who are game players and refuse to give up gaming – I am a gamer.
I enjoy it and it is a great hobby – it does not take over my life – I have a lot of varied interests that I pursue including painting, reading, blogging and participating in a couple online email list communities.
September 2006 Update – I have both a Playstation 2 and Sony PSP right now. I got rid of the Nintendo GameCube, Gameboy Advance and Nintendo DS – I will not be trying out the WII – I am a disgruntled Nintendo customer and will NEVER purchase anything from them again. You can read all about it in my blog, post, Buyer Beware. The guys at my local GameStop are the only ones who don’t look at me funny when I buy games for me … LOL … they are used to me I guess – I buy games for me, my grandson and my son-in-law.
I used to play the Might & Magic series on the computer – it was so much fun and I enjoyed it so very much! But again lives change … interests shift as technology continues to expand into online MMORPG – massive multiplayer online role-playing games (Wikipedia if there is anyone out there that doesn’t know anything about it and is interested.) Final Fantasy is my VERY faovrite series – when I had Nintendo equipment and played Zelda – Final Fantasy was still my number one favorite series of games!
My interests changed into computer graphics and expanding my oil painting, watercolor painting and digital painting plus living in the Houston Texas area, I spend two to two and a half hours per day 5 days week in Houston traffic – that does not leave me much time for serious online gaming for Everquest – no I have not played it at all – I’ve bought it … but just have not tried it. I’ve heard the horror stories about people who have gotten themselves so addicted to playing it that they lose their spouses and families or sometimes even their jobs from getting so wrapped up in playing the game. I do not have that kind of time to donate to an online game so I play console games … I haven’t bought a gaming PC – I would like to have one but yet again … I am a couple years behind in technology so I just read about the wonderful games available and keep putting off actually getting involved.
June 2007 Update – Right now, I am playing the 3rd Legend of Heroes – Song of the Ocean game on my PSP – I have a PS2 game waiting for me to finish this game but I am only about halfway finished … the other two Legend of Heroes games were lots of fun for me and I enjoyed them very much but the Moonlight Witch was the one I liked best. Song of the Ocean is quite good too.
October 2007 Update – I bought a new 50 inch TV and Playstation 3 – you should have seen the young guy at Best Buy when he realized the PS3 REALLY was for me, the Grandma … roflmao
January 2008 Update – I bought the game Oblivion last fall when I bought the PS3 and played it quite a bit – I did not like the game – the characters were ugly to me (a downside to being an artist?) … and I found it to be the most depressing game I can remember ever playing. I gave it to my grandson – he loves it – he brings it over to my house to play it all the time. I bought him the Eye of Judgment game for Christmas – it is at my house – the guy at Target nearly freaked out when I bought 4 decks of the Eye of Judgment cards – it would have been 5 but they didn’t have the fire one – guess I need to keep checking the local stores so we can get the fifth deck – you cannot choose what to deck to buy online – they send you whatever they decide – THAT is awful!!!
At Christmas, I gave the Playstation 2 and several games to a toy drive – I can play all of my PS2 games on the PS3 – Final Fantasy X11 is FABULOUS – my grandson had to start over from his first time playing the game – he sold his sword and had saved – had no money and no health – he was … not happy with himself over that ;P …. I was teasing him earlier that day about keeping his Eye of Judgment game and the 4 new decks of cards for me and making him play it with me next time he comes over … he laughed at Grandma and said okay. For my son-in-law’s birthday in December – I bought him the Uncharted Drake (?) – I haven’t seen it – I need to go over and watch him play it one of these days so I can see what ti is like – he is enjoying it very much. For Christmas, he wanted Assassin’s Creed so that is what I bought for him.
February 2008 Update
I managed to get my grandson the fifth Eye of Judgment deck last week – it was the Fire Deck – it is still on my kitchen table waiting for him to come over again … I think he is going to bring the entire game over with him … maybe this coming week-end … I bought them in a store not online – online they just choose whatever to send you and he needed a specific deck since I had bought the other 4 previously.
